Bowers to seek re-election

Elaine Bowers, Concordia, has announced her candidacy for re-election to the Kansas State Senate representing the 36th District.

First elected in 2012, Bowers is seeking a fourth term in the Senate.

“I am honored to announce my candidacy for re-election as your state senator,” Bowers said. “ Our the years it has been my privilege to serve the people of Kansas in the 36th District and I am deeply committed to continuing the important work we have started together. I believe in the power of all constituents to address the challenges facing our state and to build a brighter future for generations to come.”

Prior to being elected the Senate for the first time in 2012, Bowers served for six years in the Kansas House of Representatives representing the 107th District.

Bowers chairs the transparency and ethics committee in the Senate. She is the vice chair of the local government committee and serves on the Capitol preservation, utilities, transportation and judiciary committees.

Special committee assignments for Bowers includes the Russell Jennings joint committee on corrections and juvenile justice oversight and the joint committee on state-tribal relations.

With redistricting, the 36th District is made up of 14 counties including Cloud, Clay, Jewell, Lincoln, Marshall, Mitchell, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Republic, Rooks, Russell, Smith and Washington.
