Breese selected as CHS Student of the Month

Payton Breese has been named the Concordia High School’s Student of the Month for December.

The son of Quentin and Krystal Breese, he's had a superb athletic career at CHS, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball.

“In football during my junior year, in a game against Collegiate, I went up to catch a pass and took a shot and landed hard on my side. I didn't think anything of it and finished the game. But I broke a rib. The worst part was when I had to sneeze or cough. I have bad allergies, and I would cough and... that was not fun.”

His favorite sport? “Basketball,” he said without hesitation. “I've played it since I was young. I like the environment, being on the court with the crowd really close. It's great to play games at home.” He then grinned and added, “But it's also fun to be on the road with a loud crowd and drain a three, and it goes real quiet in the gym. That's the best feeling.”

Breese is known for his three-point shooting skill. “The most I made was seven in a game. But I did make nine in a AAU tournament in Nebraska.”

The ability to drain a bucket from long range doesn't come easy. Breese works on his shooting for an extra 30 minutes to an hour after each practice. “Sometimes I come in on Sundays and work with the shooting gun. I usually do extra shooting right before a game too, to warm up.“

Athletics isn't Breese's only skill. He's also in the National Honor Society, active in the Student Council, Friends of Rachel, Band, Yearbook, the Fellowship of Christians in Action, and he's a CTE (Career and Technical Education) Ambassador.

In his spare time, Breese enjoys golfing, K-State games, and hanging out with friends.

He's an avid golfer and has played courses all across the country. “I like playing golf with my dad. We've played in Nebraska, Colorado. We also played at the Kelly Plantation Gold Club in Destin (Florida) which was awesome.”

After he graduates from high school, Breese hopes to play basketball at the college level. “Maybe one of the smaller schools. I don't really know what the end game is yet. But K-State is there. I want to study video production. I job-shadowed at K-State for a volleyball game and got to cut some stuff, and it was great.”

When Breese looks to the future, he hopes he's working in video production at K-State. “I'd really like to coach, too, either football, baseball or basketball. Maybe at one of the smaller schools in the area.”

Breese wanted to thank his family and coaches for all their support over the years. “I want to thank mom and dad, thank God, and coaches Escher and Holmes, and coach Bender and coach Hutchinson. It's been a lot of effort, but also a lot of fun.”

Congratulations to Payton Breese, the CHS Student of the Month for December.
