“Deliberate Kin” to kick off 2019 Plaza Concert Series

On Thursday evening, May 23, at 7 p.m., the Bluegrass/Folk Music duo 'Deliberate Kin' will kick off the concert portion of the 2019 Summer Movie & Concert Series at the Broadway Plaza, and the entire community is invited.
"We've been accused of turning a place full of strangers into a room full of friends," said Amanda Jo Reisenweber. "Someone once told us that, and I think it really describes what we do."
Amanda and her husband Alex are 'Deliberate Kin'. Amanda was born and raised in the Courtland area. Alex grew up in South Dakota, and moved to Kansas to attend Kansas State University. They've been performing individually most of their lives, and formed Deliberate Kin a year ago. Both have a deep passion for the music they play.
"Bluegrass and folk music are very similar to each other," Alex said. "The key element of both is storytelling. We like this style of music because of the way we can connect with an audience."
It's important for the Reisenwebers to be able to reach people through their music.
"Whether it's an uplifting song or a sad one, we like to think we help people see an issue through another person's eyes."
Last year Deliberate Kin performed 82 shows. The husband-and-wife duo managed all those shows while also farming full-time in the Courtland area.
Deliberate Kin is planning a full summer of shows, and will embark on a national tour this Fall.
"This year we will probably perform between 150-200 shows," Alex said.
The Reisenwebers have two daughters - Isla, 9, and Avenn, 7, and the girls travel with them.
"We only perform in family-friendly places, like the Broadway Plaza, so it's a great learning experience for them. They get to see a lot places and meet a lot of different people."
The smooth harmony of Alex and Amanda's voices creates music that evokes a wide range of emotions accented by acoustic guitar rhythms and percussion beats. The inspiration for their original songs comes from all places. Sometimes they collaborate when they write music, but often times they compose songs independently.
Deliberate Kin released its first album 'Things Happen' last winter. Their music can be purchased on their website deliberatekin.com, iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. It can also be found on streaming platforms like Spotify and SoundCloud.
