Cavaliers shut out T-Birds

OVERLAND PARK   — Seventh-ranked Johnson County Community College shut out the Cloud County Community College softball team twice in a Jayhawk Conference Division II doubleheader played last Saturday at JCCC Field.

Johnson County blanked Cloud County 8-0 in five innings in game one and 3-0 in game two.

Dropping a pair of home games to Highland Community College last Thursday, Cloud County falls to 15-13 overall and 1-5 in the Jayhawk Conference Division II.

The Thunderbirds fell 4-3 and 8-0 to Highland.

In game one against Johnson County, the T-Birds fell behind 1-0 in the first inning.

Johnson County got a run-producing double by Izzy Carter and a two-run home run by Jaylee Jefferson in the third inning to extend its lead to 4-0.

The Cavaliers added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game because of the eight-run rule.

Aspen Burgar hit a three-run home run in the inning and Eve Morris blasted a solo shot.

Cloud County had six hits off of Johnson County’s Jalin Lavers, but left seven baserunners stranded.

Kaylee Pinneo had two hits for the T-Birds.

Kiera Brack took the loss. She allowed eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits, struck out seven and walked two.

The second game of the twinbill was scoreless through three and a half innings.

A two-run home run by Kate Ediger in the bottom of the fourth inning put Johnson County on top to stay, 2-0.

Jefferson added a solo home run in the sixth inning that made it 3-0.

Kaelyn Conrad limited Cloud County to three hits in the game.

The T-Birds drew four walks and again left seven on base.

Paige Mahler allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out five and walked one in six innings in taking the loss.

Cloud County came up a run short in the 4-3 loss to Highland in game one of the twinbill.

The T-Birds were trailing 1-0 when Pinneo singled to drive in Kaitlynn Baca in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game.

Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings gave the Scotties a 3-1 advantage.

Cloud County closed the gap to 3-2 with a run in the sixth inning.

Scoring one run in the top of the seventh, Highland led 4-2.

Alyssa Reynolds led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and Madeline McIntire went in to run for her.

McIntire advanced to second on a ground ball by Pinneo and scored on a double by Camille Stauffer.

With the tying run at second base, a pop up and a ground ball ended the game.

Brack took the loss. She gave up four runs, two earned, on 11 hits, struck out three and walked three.

McCormick and Baca had two hits each.

Highland’s Brielle Dee shut Cloud County out on four hits in the second game.

The Scotties scored three runs in the third inning, three in the fifth and two in the seventh to make it 8-0.

Brecken Whitney gave up six runs on eight hits, struck out one and walked two in six innings in taking the loss.
