CCCC drops pair to Allen County

IOLA — Morgan Collins tossed a no-hitter to lead the Allen County Community College softball team to a 2-0 victory over the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds in the second game of a Jayhawk Conference Division II doubleheader last Saturday.

Collins struck out two and walked six in the game.

Cloud County dropped the first game of the twinbill to the Red Devils, 6-0.

Allen County scored one run in the first inning and one in the third on its way to the win in game two.

In game one, the Red Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Allen County added two runs the second inning, one in the third and two in the sixth to make it 6-0.

Camrynn Yardley shut Cloud County out on three hits. She struck out 10 and walked three.

Cloud County dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader to Fort Scott Community College on April 24 at the CCCC Softball Field.

Fort Scott won the first game, 9-1.

The Greyhounds got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Scoring two runs in the top of the third inning, Fort Scott led 3-0.

The Greyhounds upped the lead 8-0 with four runs in the fourth inning and one in the top of the fifth.

Cloud County scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth when Harley Smith singled to drive in Jillian Artiges.

Fort Scott tacked on a run in the top of the sixth inning to go up 9-1.

The game ended after six innings because of the eight-run rule.

Paige Mahler took the loss. She gave up nine runs, seven earned, on 12 hits, struck out three and walked one.

Cloud County was shut out on three hits in the second game.

Fort Scott put up three runs in the second inning, one in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Brecken Whitney suffered the loss. She allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits, struck out two and walked one.

Cloud County finishes up the regular season on May 2 with a conference doubleheader at Neosho County Community College.
