Cloud County sweeps Colby

COLBY — Picking up two wins on Sunday, the Cloud County Community College baseball team opened Jayhawk Conference West Division play by sweeping a four-game series from the Colby Community College Trojans.
Cloud County won the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday, 11-6, and then banged out a 13-7 victory in the second game.
The T-Birds opened conference play on March 6 by defeating Colby 9-2 and 11-4.
Cloud County built an 11-2 lead through five innings in game one on Sunday.
Colby scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Jack Macintosh picked up the win for the T-Birds. He gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked two in five innings.
Demitri Shakotko was 3-for-5 at the plate with four runs batted in for Cloud County.
Paul Schuyler had a solo home run in the first inning and drove in two runs.
Nolan Freund also homered for the T-Birds.
The second game of the twinbill was tied at 1-1 going into the bottom of the third inning.
Cloud County put up three runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead.
Colby closed the gap to 9-7.
Four runs in the top of the ninth inning gave the T-Birds the 13-7 cushion.
Tyler Elliot got the win. He allowed two runs on two hits, struck out four and walked two in five innings. Zach Sharsel got the save.
Cloud County finished with 12 hits.
Noah Konings and Jakob Poturnak had two hits and drove in two runs each for the T-Birds.
Cam McCleod knocked in three runs. TJ Coats drove in two runs.
Freund had two hits and scored three runs.
In the first game of the series, the T-Birds put up six runs in the first inning on its way to the win.
Landon Meyer hit a grand slam home run in the inning.
Cloud County added two runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth.
Kevin Mannell pitched the first four innings and gave up one run on just one hit, struck out six and didn’t walk any on his way to getting the win.
Gavin Roy had three hits for the T-Birds.
Cloud County pounded out 20 hits on its way to the 11-4 win in game two.
Roy and Konings had four hits each.
MaCleod was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in.
Austin Coyle drove in two runs.
Shakotko had three hits.
Coats picked up the win. He surrendered two runs, one earned, on five hits, struck out seven and walked one in six innings.
