Panther Boys Win In OT At 4A Sub-State

Putting together a 9-0 run in overtime, the Concordia High School Panthers downed the Rose Hill Rockets 51-49 in the opening round of the Class 4A sub-state basketball tournament Wednesday night in the Concordia Junior-Senior High School gymnasium.
Concordia, seeded eighth in the West division of 4A, advances to the sub-state championship game to play top-seeded McPherson at 5 p.m. Saturday.
McPherson (21-0) downed Buhler 61-22 in the first round on Wednesday.
Rose Hill led Concordia 12-8 after one quarter of play and 22-18 at halftime.
The Panthers (13-8) trailed by as many as six points in the third quarter, but cut the deficit to three points, 31-28, heading into the final period.
Rose Hill upped the lead to 33-28.
Concordia put together a 10-3 spurt to go up 38-35.
The Rockets would pull even at 39-39, and when Peyton Retter was unable to hit a three-point shot as time expired, the game went to overtime.
Joey Henderson scored the first three points of the extra period to give Concordia a 42-39 lead.
Rose Hill got a steal and layup by Jace Evans to get Rose Hill within a point, 42-41.
The Panthers connected on 9 of 10 free throws in a span of 1:11 to put the game out of reach, 51-41.
Henderson scored 18 points for Concordia.
Chane Parker finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Payton Breese added 12 points.
Cooper Nace led Rose Hill with 15 points. Evans scored 11 points and Zander Ford added 10.
