Panthers drop two at Chapman

CHAPMAN — Shut out in game one and having a seventh-inning rally come up short in game two, the Concordia High School softball team dropped both ends of a North Central Kansas League doubleheader to the Chapman Irish on April 16.

Madalynn Harold pitched a no-hitter and Chapman pulled out a 3-0 win in the first game of the twinbill.

Concordia, after falling behind 8-3 in game two, closed the gap to 8-6 with runs in the top of the seventh inning but left the two baserunners stranded.

Harold and Concordia’s Erinae Flesher locked up in a pitching dual through the first five innings of game one.

Flesher shut the Irish out on three hits in the first five innings.

Harold doubled in a run in the bottom of the fifth to break the scoreless tie.

The Irish tacked on two runs on one hit, a walk and two errors in the sixth inning to up the lead to 3-0.

Harold allowed just two Panther baserunners in the game and struck out 15. Kynlee Williams walked in the first inning and Emalee Johnson walked with two out in the seventh inning.

Flesher suffered the loss. She gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits, struck out one and walked one.

Chapman grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.

Concordia put up three runs in the top of the third inning.

Flesher led off with a double and Kinsleigh Bethune walked.

Williams got aboard on a fielder’s choice.

Johnson singled to drive in Flesher.

Bethune got home on an error.

A base hit by Jaylin Roush plated the third run.

The Panthers carried the 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Sending nine batters to the plate, the Irish scored six runs on two hits, a walk, a hit batter and two errors to go up 8-3.

Harold hit a two-run home run in the inning.

With one out in the top of the seventh inning, Flesher singled.

Bethune and Williams walked to load the bases and Johnson drew a walk to force home a run.

A double by Roush got Bethune and Williams home to make it an 8-6 game.

With runners at second and third, the Irish got a fly ball and a strikeout to end the game.

Roush allowed eight runs, two earned, on five hits, struck out three and walked four in six innings in taking the loss. She had two hits in three at bats and drove in three runs.

Flesher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
