Trojans pull away to 91-70 victory over Thunderbirds

Playing a final home game prior to semester break, the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds were outscored 53-34 in the second half of a 90-71 Jayhawk Conference loss to Colby Community College Wednesday night in Bryant Gymnasium.
Cloud County trailed Colby just 38-36 at halftime.
The T-Birds turned the ball over 13 times over the final 20 minutes as Colby pulled away.
Cloud County falls to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference with the loss, and will wrap up first semester play at Dodge City Community College Saturday night.
“Colby saw a weakness in our defense tonight in the second half and they decided to takes us one-on-one, which led to what became a 90-71 loss tonight,” Cloud County coach Jordan Altman said, “I was really disappointed in our defense, and especially our one-on-one defense as our guarding of the ball was not satisfactory.”
Cloud County fell behind 17-10 in the first seven minutes of the game.
It was a 20-13 game when the T-Birds got a three-point shot by Akene Agee and a three-point play by Iyen Enaruna to pull within a point, 20-19.
Ty Duin scored four straight points, and Cloud County led 23-20.
A dunk by Michael Ozomah pushed the T-Birds' lead to 25-20.
Colby, 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, used a 12-2 run to go back on top, 32-27.
Five straight points by Enaruna pulled Cloud County event at 32-32.
Enaruna led Cloud County with 20 points and 15 rebounds. The 6-10 sophomore was 8 of 12 from the field and four of seven from the free throw line.
Baskets by Matt Mcfarlane and Domonic Harvey gave the Trojans the lead back at 36-32.
The two teams would exchange buckets, and Colby had the 38-36 lead at halftime.
A three-point basket by Eddie Davis gave the Trojans a 41-36 advantage just 17 seconds into the second half.
DJ Sims and Jay Lewis scored, and Cloud County trailed just 41-40.
Back to back baskets by Demarcus Sharp put Colby up 45-40.
Dyelan Reed and Lewis buried three-point shots to give the T-Birds their first lead of the second half, 46-45.
Javon May completed a three-point play to put the Trojans up 48-46
Cloud County answered with a three-point play by Sims, and led 49-48 with 15:43 to play in the game.
It would be the last lead for the T-Birds.
Colby went on an 8-1 run to go up 56-50.
A jumper by Sims made it 56-52.
The Trojans scored the next nine points to push the lead to 65-52.
A three by Michael Ozomah would make it a 65-55 game.
That is as close as Cloud County could get.
Colby would outscore the T-Birds 26-15 over the final nine minutes.
Reed, a freshman from Concordia, scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds for Cloud County.
Ozomah, who was four of five from the field, scored 10 points off the bench for the T-Birds.
Lewis, the leading scorer for Cloud County, was limited to five points.
The T-Birds hit 27 of 61 field goal attempts for 44 percent and 9 of 14 free throws for 64 percent.
All five Colby starters scored in double figures, led by Sharp with 23 points.
May and Eddie Davis each scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Mcfarlane finished with 14 points and nine rebounds, and Alexandre Fanchini added 11 points.
Colby shot 41 percent (32 of 78) from the field and 81 percent (21 of 26) from the line.
The Trojans turned the ball over just four times in the game.
