Stephen Murry Fitzgerald

Stephen (Steve) Murry Fitzgerald was born March 29, 1944, in Concordia, Kansas, and passed away on February 17, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia, at the age of 79.

Steve was the son of Murray and Gaeta Fitzgerald of Jamestown, Kansas. He graduated from Jamestown High School in May 1962 and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1967. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity while at KU. Following graduation from KU, Steve served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps.

Steve spent more than 30 years in Virginia where he worked as an IT specialist. Although Steve resided in Virginia for more than half of his adult life, he still considered himself a Kansan and loved to watch KU basketball.

Steve was a big NASCAR fan and loved to support the Washington Redskins. He also loved following the Kansas City Chiefs and talking to his cousins about the games. He thoroughly enjoyed video streaming his younger cousins playing football, basketball, and soccer.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brother Michael.

He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Colleen and George Warner of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Jeanne Smith of Carmichael, California, plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 20, 2024, with interment to follow in the Fitzgerald family plot at the Jamestown Cemetery.
