T-Birds go 1-3 in Coaches Duals

MIAMI, Okla. — Squaring off against four ranked opponents, the 11th-ranked Cloud County Community College wrestling team went 1-3 in the NJCAA Coaches Duals on Friday and Saturday.
Cloud County opened the event with a 27-24 loss to 14th-ranked Southwestern Oregon Community College.
The Thunderbirds suffered a 28-22 loss to 21st-ranked Iowa Lakes Community College. They defeated 13th-ranked Triton College and then fell 42-15 to second-ranked Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
In the loss to Southwestern Oregon, the T-Birds had Bray Skinner defeat Joey Thompson 4-2 in the 125-pound class.
Cloud County then lost the next three matches to fall behind 18-3.
Jonny Crome started a run of three consecutive Cloud County wins by pinning Jett Nelson in 1:22 in the 157-pound class.
Sixth-ranked Cooper Mosier, 165 pounds, won by forfeit and Brandon Rohr, 174 pounds, won a 40 decision over Jaycen Crisostomo to pull the T-Birds even at 18-18.
JR Scott, ranked 10th in the country, pinned Cloud County's Micah Sterling in the 184-pound class to give Southwestern Oregon a 24-18 lead.
Cloud County tied the dual again at 24-24 when number one ranked Zach Ferris pinned Cameron Bauman in the 197-pound class.
The dual came down to the final match, and Southwestern Oregon's Jayden Dobson won a 3-0 decision over Emanuel Munoz-Alcala in the 285-pound class.
Cloud County grabbed a 12-0 lead on Iowa Lakes when Sajen Kemling, 125, and Skinner, 133, won the forfeit.
The T-Birds gave up a forfeit at 141.
Kase Givens pinned Dontae Johnson in the 149-pound class and Crome won a 13-1 major decision over Cael Langvford to give Cloud County a 22-6 lead.
Iowa Lakes then won the final five matches.
Mosier was beaten 7-4 by Dominque Johnson.
Rohr fell 3-0 to Caden Mumme.
Sterling lost a 10-2 major decision to John Colburne.
Ferris was pinned by ninth-ranked Masoma Endene.
Ibrahim Ameer, 285 pounds, was pinned by Ryan Johnson.
Kemling started Cloud County off with a win against Triton College by defeating Zavien Stewart, 11-2.
Skinner was pinned 15-5 by Michael Archer.
Cloud County was open at 141.
Givens was pinned by Drake Campbell and Crome lost by fall to Luke Barron as the T-Birds fell behind 22-4.
Cloud County then posted six consecutive victories to win the dual.
Mosier defeated Alonzo Smiley, 14-6.
Rohr pinned Michael Koenig.
Sterling pinned Sean Burke.
Ferris defeated Sean Kelly 13-3 and Ameer won 7-1 over Ronald Krewer.
Skinner gave the T-Birds an early 6-0 lead in Northeastern Oklahoma by pinning Peyton Brown in the 125-pound class.
Cloud County dropped the next three matches, and trailed 18-6.
Crome pinned Gage Shetley to make it 18-12.
Three consecutive wins gave Northeastern Oklahoma a 36-12 advantage.
Ferris picked up the final win for Cloud County by defeating Seth Farasua, 8-4.
