An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July

Posted

Memories from childhood often flood the mind when fun is involved, and that holds true, especially for holidays like the Fourth of July.

Concordia’s first Old-Fashioned Fourth of July will have plenty of opportunities for fun for everyone. July 3-4, Cloud County will have activities and events ranging from games and snacks to a fireworks display.

This year’s fireworks display will be at 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at the Cloud County Fairgrounds, kicking off the following day’s activities.

The Concordia Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber Events committee present its first annual Old-Fashioned Fourth of July on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Concordia Broadway Plaza downtown.

The Fourth of July celebration from the Chamber of Commerce will start at 10 a.m. with a Presentation of the Colors, which includes the singing of the Star Spangled Banner, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and the Preamble of the Constitution.

Games and prizes will follow. This year’s lineup of old-fashioned games will include a three-legged race, a potato sack race and other games from back in the day.

There will be stars and chalk to play with as well, sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Try your hand at some trivia, too. First place winner is sponsored by Dano’s Fireworks, and second and third place are sponsored by The Music Studio.

There will be water balloon games and performances by The Music Studio at this year’s event, as well.

Ice cream is provided by Heartland Auto Club, and VIP Majestic Theatre will have popcorn. There will be presentations on the 13 flag folds and Betsy Ross. The event will end the day with the retirement of colors with Lisa Valcoure.

With two days packed with fun, all, from young to old, will find something to enjoy—from remembering your childhood about the Fourth of July to making new memories.
