Bernard “Bernie” Omer Bieker, age 73, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, Kansas. He was born on January 19, 1949, in Cheyenne Wells, Colo., to Julius Omer & Marie Marcella (Forgue) Bieker.
He graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School, Concordia. He then attended Brown Mackie in Salina and Seminary for some time in Victoria. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1975.
He was a computer programmer for most of his life in Colorado until returning to Concordia to care for his mother and has been a resident for the past 12 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia. Bernie was an avid genealogy researcher and enjoyed keeping the family history together and current.
He is survived by his longtime partner, Janice Henshaw, Concordia; son, Andy (Megan), Boise, Idaho; daughter, Julie Bieker Bender (Jason), Meridian, Idaho; brothers, Lawrence (Cathy), Pittsburg, Kan., Richard (Diane), James (Cathy), Anthony (Mary), Thomas (Crystal Wilson), all of Concordia & Dale (Kim), Benton, Ark.; sisters, Elizabeth Deneke (Mike), Amarillo, Texas, Margaret Colgrove (Dwight), Washington, Kan. & Kathleen Schmidt (Russ), Concordia; nine grandchildren & one great-grandchild.
He was preceded by his parents; infant brother, Theodore; sister-in-law, Cathy Bieker and a nephew, Brian Deneke.
It was Bernie’s wishes to be cremated and Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2022, at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, with Fr. David Metz officiating. Friends may sign the register book from 1-8 p.m., with a Rosary service at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2022, all at the funeral home.
