Our beloved mother, Betty J. Strait, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at The Willows in Jackson, Tenn., with her son Steven by her side. She was born on December 10, 1940, in Concordia, Kansas, to Leo and Blanche Schille.
On May 28, 1959, Betty married the love of her life, Bobby “Bob” Strait, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia. Together, they built a life full of love and adventure, traveling across the United States and Germany during Bob’s military service.
Betty was a devoted homemaker who carried a sharp wit, a warm sense of humor, and a memory “as sharp as a whip.” She delighted in life’s simple pleasures—especially sweets. Cakes, donuts, pies, cookies—she loved them all, though strawberry ice cream held a special place in her heart. She also enjoyed playing card games, often filling the room with laughter and friendly competition.
She had a lifelong love of dogs and never missed a chance to get down on the floor to play with them. Her gentle spirit and joy for animals reflected the kindness she shared with everyone around her.
Betty is survived by her children, Donna Strait of Salt Lake City, Utah; Steven (Stephanie) Strait of Jackson, Tenn. and David (Tanja) Strait of Las Vegas, Nev.; along with nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in California, with interment at Riverside National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Bob.
Betty’s laughter, love, and unwavering spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
