DODGE CITY — Keeping the momentum to close the series with Dodge City, the Cloud County Community College baseball team completed the sweep with an 18-6 and 12-9 win on the road.
DODGE CITY AWAY SERIES
Game one saw the T-Birds win 18-6.
Cloud scored in the top of the first, but Dodge City took a 2-1 lead after one inning. The T-Birds scored five runs in the top of the second before the Conqs scored four in the bottom of the inning to tie the game six-all. Cloud’s defense would shut down the Dodge City offense for the rest of the game. The T-birds scored four runs in the third, three runs in the fifth, and one run in the sixth before closing the game with four runs in the seventh to take game, 18-6.
Noah Bourgeois (3-1) earned the win with one hit and walk allowed with five strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Austin Coyle hit for the cycle with four runs scored on four hits with seven RBIs.
Matthew Evans had three runs scored on two hits with an RBI.
Nolan Freund, Easton Mould, Cam MaCleod, and Lucas Laukkanen each had two runs scored on a combined six hits and three walks.
David Simmons, Noah Konings, and Kaden Budke each had one run scored on one hit.
In game two, the T-Birds won 12-9.
The T-birds scored first with three runs in the top of the second inning, with the Conqs scoring one run in the bottom of the second. With two scoreless innings, both teams scored one run in the fifth. Dodge City scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a slim 5-4 lead. Cloud scored three runs of its own in the top of the seventh before the Conqs tied the game 7-all after seven innings played. The T-birds iced the game with four runs scored in the top of the eighth. The defense held Dodge City to only two runs scored in the final two innings, while the offense scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth to complete the sweep with a 12-9 win.
Aaron Boutz earned his first win of the season with two runs allowed on two hits with a walk in one inning pitched.
Coyle and Konings each scored three runs on a combined five hits.
Freund and Simmons each scored two runs on a combined seven hits and four RBIs.
Joey Marino and Evans each scored one run on one hit.
DODGE CITY HOME SERIES
Facing off with Dodge City Community College for the second KJCCC matchup and to close the six game home stretch, the T-Birds picked up another two wins.
In game one, the T-Birds won 14-4.
Dodge City scored first in the top of the first, with the Conquistadors picking up four straight hits to score two runs before the Cloud defense would get out of the inning. The T-Birds would tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Cloud would take the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs, thanks to a pair of home runs, to take a 6-2 lead. Dodge City would pick up a run after three scoreless innings and would cap the game with a run in the top of the sixth, before the T-birds exploded in the bottom of the inning with eight runs to run rule the Conqs 14-4 and take game one.
Caden Marcum (2-1) earned the win with three runs scored on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Nolan Freund had three runs scored on one hit with an RBI and a walk.
Kaden Budke and Cam MaCleod each had two runs scored on a combined three hits and seven RBIs.
Austin Coyle, David Simmons, Matthew Evans, Lucas Laukkanen, Gannon White, Noah Konings, and Joey Marino each had one run scored on a combined five hits and five RBIs.
In game two the T-Birds won 19-9.
Dodge City started with a run in the top of the first. The T-Birds roared for six runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to a two run homer, three RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to take a 6-1 lead. The Conquistadors chipped away at the lead with three runs scored in the second. The T-Birds exploded in the third inning with eight runs scored to take a 14-4 lead. The T-Birds would match the Conqs’ offense the rest of the game, with both teams scoring two in the fourth, splitting runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and each teams scoring two runs in the seventh to close the game 19-9.
Ben Soke earned his first win of the season with two runs allowed on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts in two innings pitched. Evan Bogart earned his first save of the season.
Coyle and Evans each had three runs scored on a combined four hits with two RBIs and two walks.
Konings, Freund, Simmons, Mould, and Laukkanen each had two runs scored with a combined 10 hits and 11 RBIs.
MaCleod had one run scored on two hits, one being a home run, with five RBIs.
Tony Crow, and Kaden Budke had one run scored.
KWU JV SERIES
Hosting Kansas Wesleyan University JV for the middle part of a six game home stretch, the Thunderbird baseball team extended its winning streak to seven with a sweep of the Coyotes.
In game one, the T-Birds won 13-1.
Cloud scored first in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 4-0 lead. The Coyotes picked their lone run in the top of the second, before the T-Birds erased that score by tacking on two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-1 lead. After a scoreless third inning, the T-Birds put the game on ice with seven runs scored in the fourth to win game one 13-1.
Myles Chamberlain earned his first win of the season with zero hits or runs allowed with three strikeouts in one inning pitched.
David Simmons had three runs scored on two hits with five RBIs, with a home run.
Noah Konings, Nolan Freund, and Easton Mould each had two runs scored on one hit.
Austin Coyle, Matthew Evans, Gannon White, and Vasya Seymour each had one run scored on a combined six hits.
In game two, the T-Birds won 7-1.
The Coyotes struck first in the top of the first, but Cloud one-upped them by scoring two in the bottom of the inning and kept the Coyotes off the board for the rest of the game. Cloud would pick up a run in the bottom of the third and closed the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth on its way to a 7-1 win.
Noah Bourgeois (2-1) earned the win on one hit allowed with five strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Lucas Laukkanen, Carter Cathers, Coyle, Freund, Konings, and Seymour each had one run scored on one hit, with Seymour’s being a home run.
Simmons had one run scored.
Joey Marino and Kaden Budke each had one hit.
