Author David L. Scott, who has penned a novel about Cloud County Community College Softball, will visit the college Library on Monday, Oct. 19, for a meet-and-greet from noon to 1 p.m. Scott will share his debut novel, The Farm Girl: Book One: Becoming a Softball Player, the first book in a fictional trilogy about a Cloud County softball player.
Traveling from his home in Birmingham, Ala., Scott will be making his first visit to Kansas to introduce readers to his first published book.
The Farm Girl: Book One: Becoming a Softball Player follows Ellie Rose, a shy Kansas girl with a dream of playing college softball. As Ellie prepares to take the next step toward achieving that dream, she questions whether she can meet the expectations placed on her as a college athlete.
The story explores several important life transitions as Ellie moves from high school to Cloud County, becomes a college freshman and begins living independently in a college dorm. Along the way, she navigates new friendships and adjusts to life with her roommate, a confident, hard-throwing pitcher from Clearwater.
The book is the first installment in a planned trilogy that follows Ellie's experiences and growth as she pursues her softball dreams.
Community members, students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the meet-and-greet, meet Scott and learn more about his debut novel and the inspiration behind the story.
