COLBY — Heading west to take on Colby in the top half of a four-game series, the T-Birds got one win before game two was postponed due to weather.
In game one, the T-Birds won 5-1.
The Trojans scored first with a solo run in the bottom of the first inning, to which Cloud countered with two runs of its own in the top of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. After two more scoreless innings, the T-Birds scored two more runs in the fifth inning, before closing the game with another solo run in the seventh inning to take game one.
Caden Marcum (6-1) earned the win, giving up one run on six hits with nine strikeouts.
Kaden Budke scored three runs on four hits with an RBI.
Nolan Freund and Cam MaCleod each had one run scored on three hits.
In the original game two, the T-Birds led 3-1 in the top of the third inning before the game got postponed to Monday.
Hosting Colby for the middle part of their four-game series, the T-Birds split the home series with Colby.
In game two, the T-Birds lost 14-10.
Cloud scored a solo run in the second quarter, after which the Trojans exploded for five runs in the top of the third to take a 5-1 lead. The T-Bird offense started to match the pace, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third and scoring four runs in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead. With two scoreless innings, the Trojans’ offense woke up and scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh before Cloud tied the game with three runs of its own to make it a 10-10 game. Four Colby runs in the eighth gave the Trojans the win.
Ben Soke (1-1) was given the loss.
Cam MaCleod and Eric Bradicich each had two runs scored on two hits.
In game three, the T-Birds won 1-0.
In a defensive battle that only saw three T-Bird hits all game, Cloud scored the lone run of the entire game in the third inning. Colby was only able to tally four hits and one walk in the game, but five walks and two hit-by-pitches would be the difference that gave the T-Birds the baserunners needed to get the win.
Cole Linton (5-1) earned the win with a complete game pitched with four hits allowed and five strikeouts.
Eric Bradicich, Cam MaCleod, and Nolan Freund each had one hit, with Freund scoring the lone run.
Finishing the postponed game at Colby to close the series, the T-Birds won 13-7.
Starting from the top of the third inning with a 3-1 lead, the T-Birds scored another run to take a 5-1 lead. Cloud scored one run in the fourth, but Colby countered with two runs to try and chip away at the lead. One run scored by each in the sixth, two Trojan runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth would tie the game entering the ninth inning. Cloud put multiple nails in the coffin, scoring six runs in the sixth to close the game.
Aaron Boutz (2-0) earned the win with one hit allowed with two walks and one strikeout in two innings pitched.
Freund scored two runs on four hits, one being a home run.
Lucas Laukkanen had three runs scored on two hits, one being a home run.
Freund and Gannon White each had home runs.
In a tune-up game for a break from conference play, the T-Birds run-ruled Doane University JV 11-1 last Tuesday.
Cloud got on the board in the second inning, picking up three runs before blowing the game open with six more runs on a two-out rally in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead. Doane got on the board in the top of the sixth, before the T-Birds closed out with one run in the sixth and seventh innings to run-rule the Panthers.
Kai Rempel (3-0) earned the win on the mound.
