BELLEVILLE — With the best team performance yet, which saw five Panthers in the top 15, the Concordia High School boys golf team took home a second-place finish at the Republic County meet in Belleville last Monday.

Concordia got second with a 327 team score, 30 strokes higher than second-place Beloit, and 11 strokes behind Southeast of Saline, who only brought three golfers. Adam Thiel of SES was first with a score of 74.

Lennon Ninemire was second with a score of 75.

Andrew Henderson had a tied third-place score of 82, and finished fifth.

Karson Lister was tied for seventh with a score of 84, and finished eighth.

Luke Donovan was ninth with a score of 85.

Peyton Retter was 10th with a score of 87.

Zak Allen was 19th with a tied 17th place score of 93.

Getting in the swing of the season quickly, the Concordia boys golf team earned a second-place team finish at the Chapman Invitational.

Wamego won the meet with 315 points, had three of the top five finishes, and six of the top 10. Regan Kueker of Wamego won the meet with a score of 72.

Luke Donovan led the way for the Panthers with a score of 81, good for a tied fourth-place score and a fifth-place finish.

Lennon Ninemire had a tied 10th-place score of 84.

Karson Lister finished 15th with a score of 87.

Andrew Henderson finished with a tied 17th-place score of 88 and a 19th-place finish.

Coleman Plymesser finished tied for 20th with a score of 89.

Baylor Knox finished with a tied 36th-place score of 103.

“We had a nice rebound today,” said head coach Gene Rundus.

“It was great to see Luke medal 5th, and placing second as a team was nice, as well. Granted, the course is a little more wide open, but I thought that overall the guys did a better job of reacting to less than desirable shots and situations. There is plenty to work on, but Wamego beat us by 68 strokes at their home course last Thursday, and we closed that gap to 25 today, and I think the guys all agree that we gave away three to five strokes per man today. We have a big three-tournament run next week, so we will see if we can keep this momentum rolling, but I like the turnaround, and we are all looking forward to the challenge.”
