CHS softball falls to TMP, Chapman

Facing two of the best teams in the state of Kansas in one week, the Concordia High School softball team fell to 2-14 on the season.

Versus TMP, the Panthers lost 17-0.

Starting the matchup with one of the best teams in the state of Kansas, the Panthers handed the Monarchs a three-up-three-down inning to start the game with a pair of strikeouts. Morgan Lister and Kyndra Brandt would get on base, but back-to-back outs kept the game at 0-0.

TMP got their footing in the second, with back-to-back hits scoring a runner to take a 1-0 lead. McKayla Cherney would knock a single, but a double play and a strikeout quickly ended the second inning. TMP exploded for five runs in the top of the third to make it a 6-0 game. After getting on base, Lister stole third before getting caught trying to steal home to keep it a 6-0 game.

The Monarchs would score another run in the fourth, with another quick inning for the Panthers. With a scoreless fifth, TMP brought in another run in the sixth before piling on nine runs in the seventh to take game one.

Lister went 3-3 from the plate, Bailey Conner was 1-2 with a walk, and Cherney was 1-3.

In game two, the Panthers lost 16-1.

TMP came out swinging, bringing in six runs in the top of the first to take all the momentum. Lister would get on base on a single, but three quick outs would leave her on second. The Monarchs scored five more runs and left two in scoring position, before a flyout stemmed the bleeding, as they made it an 11-0 game. Cherney and Emma Bray would get one base from singles, but couldn’t be brought home to get on the board to end the second inning.

After a one-pitch out to start the top of the third, TMP got three hits to score one run to make it 12-0. Lister recorded another single before a Kyndra Brandt double gave the Panthers their first run to make it 12-1. Four more TMP runs in the fourth and a quick bottom of the fourth ended the game early, with TMP sweeping the Panthers.

Lister went 2-2 with a run scored; Brandt and Cherney went 1-2, and Bray went 1-1 with a hit-by-pitch.

Versus Chapman in game one, the Panthers lost 13-0.

After a quick top of the first inning for the Panthers, Chapman’s offense exploded for seven runs to take the early 7-0 lead. A three-up-three-down second for Concordia gave way to a five-run bottom of the second for Chapman to make it 12-0. After two outs, Lister would pick up a single, but would be caught stealing to end the third inning for Concordia.

A pair of strikeouts and throwing an Irish player out trying to steal would close the third inning. Camleigh Hake would knock a single before two strikeouts ended the top of the fourth. A pair of errors and a single scored the final Irish run, and a three-up-three-down inning for the Panthers ended game one. Lister, Conner, and Hake all went 1-2 from the plate.

In game two, the Panthers lost 12-2.

After a three-up-three-down first inning for Concordia, Chapman scored a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead after one inning. Another three-up-three-down inning gave way for the Irish to score six runs in the second to lead 8-0.

Cherney got on base with a single, Jaylin Roush got on base on a fielder’s choice. Then, Bray got on with a fielder’s choice before scoring on a trio of wild pitches to get the Panthers on the board. Lister got walked in the third inning. Chapman got another run on a pair of errors to make it 9-1 after three innings.

After two outs to start the fourth, Catelin Benyshek got hit by a pitch, Bella Stuber hit a single, and Cherney hit a single that scored Benyshek to make it 9-2. A pair of walks and groundouts would score an Irish run to end the fourth with Chapman leading 10-2. A Bray hit-by-pitch, Lister single, and Hake getting on base by error was all the Panthers could get, with an Irish walk, double and single, ending the game early, 12-2.

Cherney went 2-2, Lister went 1-2 with a walk, Stuber went 1-2, and Bray went 0-1 with an HBP.
