Posted

Opening the season with one of their few home competitions of the year, the Clifton-Clyde volleyball team split a triangular with Onaga and Linn to be 1-1 to start the year.

Versus Onaga in match one, Clifton-Clyde won 2-0.

The Eagles came out red hot to open the first set, scoring seven straight points before Onaga was forced to call a time-out, and the Eagles scored two more points before Onaga finally scored to make it 9-1. After a pair of points and a serving error made it 11-2, a nearly six-minute stoppage killed all of the Eagles’ momentum.

Onaga was able to get the match close with an 11-3 run to make it a 14-13 set. Clifton-Clyde was able to create some separation and lead 23-16, but a late run by the Buffaloes came up short as the Eagles took set one 25-21.

Set two would be more in the Eagles’ favor, opening with an 8-1 lead, before taking a strong 20-9 lead. Onaga would cut into the lead, but Clifton-Clyde would hold strong and take the win, 25-18, sweeping the Buffaloes.

Versus Linn, the Eagles lost 2-0.

After Clifton-Clyde kept the first set close to start, trailing 3-2, Linn took over and pulled away quickly, eventually taking set one 25-14, and then taking set two 25-13.
