Clifton-Clyde volleyball takes second in Wakefield tourney; falls to #1 Centralia, Doniphan West

WAKEFIELD — Heading south for the Wakefield tournament as defending champions, the Clifton-Clyde volleyball team went 3-1 and finished as runner-ups.

In match one versus Pike Valley, the Eagles won 2-0.

In match two versus host Wakefield, the Eagles won 2-0.

Clifton-Clyde took set one with a strong 25-11 win and took set two narrowly, 25-23, from the Bombers.

In match three versus Bennington, the Eagles won 2-1.

The Bulldogs edged out a set one win, 25-22, but the Eagles bounced back with a 25-16 set two win, before taking set three 25-18.

In match four versus Blue Valley, the Eagles lost 2-0.

The #8 Rams took set one 25-11; the Eagles making set two closer but still falling 25-19.

For the tournament: Ellie Wurtz led in kills with 32; Paige Joy and Camdyn Baker had 19; Eden Close had 18; Tragen Kieffer had four. Joy had 12 aces; Wurtz had five; Close had four; Sacco had three; Nellie Fahey had two; Scout Skocny had one. Sacco led in assists with 77; Kieffer had seven; Fahey and Skocny had two; Close and Joy had one. Skocny led in digs with 29; Joy had 28; Close had 24; Fahey had 12; Addie Walter and Wurtz had six; Kieffer had two. Close led in blocks with seven; Joy had three; Wurtz and Baker had two; Kieffer had one.

CENTRALIA/DONIPHAN WEST

In match one versus Centralia, the Eagles lost 2-0.

Centralia narrowly took set one 25-23, and the Panthers took set two 25-18.

Ellie Wurtz led in kills with six; Eden Close and Camdyn Baker had five; Paige Joy had four. Gracen Sacco led in assists with 15; Wurtz and Joy had one each. Scout Skocny had two aces; Tessa Chartier and Close each had one. Skocny led in digs with 11; Joy and Sacco had seven; Baker had three; Nellie Fahey had two; Chartier and Close had one. Joy led in blocks with two (one solo), Wurtz, Close, and Baker all had one assisted block.

In match two versus Doniphan West, the Eagles lost 2-0.

DW took set one 25-15, with the Eagles making set two closer but still falling 25-19.

Baker led in kills with five; Joy had three; Wurtz had two; Tragen Kieffer and Sacco had one. Sacco led in assists with 10 and Skocny had one. Wurtz had three aces and Fahey had one. Fahey and Skocny led in digs with four; Close and Joy had two; Wurtz and Sacco had one. Joy led in blocks with two; Wurtz, Close, Kieffer, and Baker each had one.
