Cloud County firefighters and law enforcement officers responded to a rural fire at 11:37 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at a residence located about 18 miles south of Concordia.
According to Cloud County Emergency Management Director Makenna Hass, a passerby on U.S. Highway 81 reported the fire while driving through the area near the junction of Highway 81 and U.S. Highway 24.
“There’s a downed power line that was sparking onto vehicles,” Haas said. “Which ultimately caught fire.”
The residence is located on Deer Road near the junction of Highways 81 and 24.
Haas said that Rural Fire District Four responded to the scene from Glasco, along with firefighters from Miltonvale and the Cloud County Sheriff’s Department. First responders extinguished the blaze quickly, and firefighters began leaving the scene around 12:40 p.m.
According to officials, there was no one at the residence during the time of the fire.
The Cloud County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
