Cloud County has a lot of resources for people in need. From prenatal, childcare, senior citizens, counseling, family support, drug and alcohol support, medical services, food, financial, housing, transportation, clothing, and education to employment, there is something for just about every need.
The Cloud County Health Department, Cloud County Resource Center, Manna House of Prayer, Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas (DVACK), Neighbor to Neighbor, Frank Carlson Library, North Central Kansas CASA and Hope’s Place (NCK CASA) all offer help and support.
Manna House of Prayer, through private donations, has a Helping Hands ministry, which can provide emergency financial assistance and food for people in crisis.
DVACK, at Concordia’s Satellite office, provides services for all domestic violence survivors. All their services are free, voluntary, and confidential. DVACK has crisis services, support groups, court advocacy assistance, and aids for clothing, hygiene, and household goods.
The Cloud County Resource Center has a food bank, some financial services, and limited household goods.
NCK CASA is a program to assist children who are abused and neglected. They provide crisis intervention, and support and referrals for mental health and medical treatment.
Neighbor to Neighbor is a drop-in center for women and children in Concordia. It is funded by the Sisters of St. Joseph. They provide free lunches at 11:30 a.m. most days of the week, RSVP by 10 a.m. to get a spot reserved. They have laundry facilities, shower services, exercise classes, child playgroups, free Wi-Fi, a knitting and crochet group, baking classes, vouchers, educational resources, and referrals for services in the community. It is a safe place to drop by during their business hours.
Some of the thrift stores help with clothing assistance. Vouchers for the Catholic Thrift Store can be acquired from Neighbor to Neighbor. The Fellowship Christian Thrift Store also has vouchers that can be acquired within the store.
Frank Carlson Library is a safe place for individuals and families to drop in during business hours. They have heating and air conditioning, and resources for other services in the community if you need a free place to go.
Emergency Housing:
•DVACK has an emergency pet-friendly safe shelter in Salina, KS. The Concordia’s satellite office provides emergency transportation to the shelter. This service is free of charge.
•Manna House of Prayer has housing, even for one night, starting at about $50 per night.
•Some of the churches in Concordia may help with vouchers for hotels. Contact individual churches for more information.
•There are a few low-income or income-based apartments in Cloud County, including Concordia Apartments, Cloud Village, Savannah Park Apartments, and Sunflower Apartments. These apartments require applications and are a longer-term solution.
Clothing Assistance:
•Catholic Thrift Store has vouchers that can be acquired from Neighbor to Neighbor.
•Fellowship Christian Thrift Store has vouchers that can be acquired within the store.
•DVACK has clothing assistance for domestic survivors that can be acquired from the Concordia office.
Food Assistance:
•Cloud County Resource Center’s food bank; ID is required, but they have a homeless program that doesn’t require an ID.
•Manna House of Prayer’s Helping Hands ministry has a small food pantry for people in crisis.
•‘Commodities’ is a program at the First United Methodist Church which occurs every other month. No proof of ID or income is needed.
•Meals on Wheels program is provided through the Concordia Senior Center, for all ages. The cost for a meal is $5 for 65 or older and $6 for younger than 65.
•Cloud County Health Department provides an emergency pantry basket for people, pending supplies.
Financial Assistance:
•Cloud County Resource Center, call for specific services.
•The Department of Children and Family (DCF) can help people with children or women who are pregnant. Applications are available from the local office.
•Manna House of Prayer and Catholic Charities.
Laundry Services:
•Neighbor to Neighbor has laundry services for Women and Children, call to reserve a time.
•OCCK Inc. partnered with Laundry Love to provide laundry services for the Community free of charge, on the first Wednesday of the month from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and the third Wednesday of the month from 4-6 p.m., at 1548 Lincoln St., Concordia. This included free access to washers, dryers, and detergent.
Transportation:
•Go Concordia is providing free rides starting November 4, 2024, until May 30, 2025. They are now serving all of Cloud County.
•DVACK provides emergency transportation to the local hospital or to their safe shelter in Salina.
•North Central Kansas Medical Center has resources for families who need gas money if they have a patient transferred out of town.
•There are other transportation services in town. KS 81 Connection drives from Salina to Belleville, going through Concordia. They require a small fee. OCCK Inc. has transportation services for individuals with short-term or long-term disabilities.
Medical Services:
•Cloud County Health Department helps with low-cost services, including immunizations, physical assessments, family planning, and home health services.
•North Central Kansas Medical Center has an emergency room and a walk-in or by-appointment Family Care Center.
•KanCare is Kansas’ Medicaid program. Applications are available online.
