CNB falls to Clifton-Clyde 11-2, Clay Center 13-0

CLYDE — Competing in the NCK league tournament in Clyde on July 11, CNB fell to Clifton-Clyde 11-2 in their final game before the East Regional, hosted in Concordia.

Kasey Pearson came out of the gates for CNB with a leadoff triple to open the game and would be brought in by a Peyton Ryals single. Clifton-Clyde responded with a trio of runs to take the lead, with Easton Knoettgen, Isiah Jackson, and Brennan Zahm scoring for the Eagles.

CNB took back the lead in the top of the second with Zach Stovall and Keith Day scoring after being brought home by Brady LaBarge to make it a 4-3 game. The Eagles scored three more runs to snatch the lead back with an Emitt Tiemeyer home run, scoring Knoettgen and Jackson.

Trying to keep pace in the top of the third, CNB would get a pair of runners on base, but couldn’t bring them home. The Eagles took advantage and expanded their lead with four runs by Jacob Clairmont, Knoettgen, Jackson, and Tiemeyer scoring to push the lead to eight, 10-2.

CNB would get another pair of baserunners on base with a pair of walks, but couldn’t get a hit to score. The Eagles scored another run in the bottom of the fourth with Brayden Burnett scoring to make it 11-2. With one last chance to score, CNB would get the bases loaded on three straight walks, before out three left them all stranded to end the game.

Competing in the first round of the NCK league tournament in Clyde, CNB was defeated by Clay Center 13-0.

The Tigers struck first with a trio of runs in the bottom of the first inning, after giving up a Kasey Pearson double in the top of the inning.

After two outs, Zach Stovall was walked, but strikeout number three left him on base. The Tigers expanded their lead with six runs in the bottom of the second to make it a 9-0 game.

With a three-up-three-down third inning for CNB, the Tigers put the game on ice with four more runs to initiate the run rule and win the game.

Pearson and Seth Lacy were the only baserunners for CNB.
