CNB hits walk-off versus Valley Heights, defeats Republic County

Keeping the momentum rolling to start the season, Concordia CNB defeated the Valley Heights Yellow Jackets 9-8.

Both offenses started the game strong, with both teams scoring one run in the first inning, with CNB taking a 3-2 lead after the second inning, before building a cushion with a four-run third inning.

The Yellow Jackets were able to fight their way back into the game, with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and with three runs scored in the top of the sixth inning, they had the lead, 8-7.

CNB was able to rebound after two scoreless innings, with Daniel Kemling stealing home on a wild pitch with two outs to tie the game and force a seventh inning.

After keeping the game tied in the top of the seventh, bases loaded with two outs, Brady LaBarge brought home Colton McWhorter on a walk-off single to give CNB the 9-8 win.

Kemling led the way with three runs scored on three hits with an RBI, with McWhorter scoring two runs on four walks.

Hosting Republic County, Concordia CNB defeated the Raptors in an offensive showcase, 20-12.

CNB’s pitching struggled early on, giving up nine runs in the first inning. CNB’s bats responded with 11 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning and would never give up the lead.

The Raptors picked up one run in the top of the second, but the CNB attack brought in four runs to increase their lead to five, and one run in the third made it a 16-10 game. After a scoreless fourth inning, CNB capped the day off with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, as the Raptors scored two in the top of the inning to end the game 20-12.

Nash Franz and Keith Day led CNB, each scoring three runs on a combined five hits and three RBIs, with seven other batters scoring two runs on a combined 12 hits.
