The Concordia Police Department announces the successful conclusion of an extensive
investigation into crimes against children that resulted in the conviction of David Lucas Brown.
On January 28, 2026, the Concordia Police Department opened an investigation involving
allegations of crimes against children. Over the following three months, Concordia Police
Department detectives worked closely with the Abilene Police Department and the National
Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
As part of the investigation, more than ten search warrants were executed. Multiple electronic
devices were seized and examined by the Concordia Police Department. Investigators also
conducted numerous interviews with victims, witnesses, and the suspect.
As a result of the extensive investigation, David Brown was arrested and booked into the
Cloud County Jail on multiple charges related to crimes against children. Brown has remained
incarcerated since February 13, 2026.
On August 18, 2026, Brown was convicted of Rape and Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a
Child. He was sentenced to 235 months (19.5 years) in prison.
This investigation required significant resources, investigative expertise, and many hours of
dedicated work by members of the Concordia Police Department. The investigation was led
by Detective Emma Thyfault and Lieutenant Adam Sorell, whose commitment and
determination were instrumental in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
Chief Brent Gering would like to express his sincere appreciation to Detective Thyfault,
Lieutenant Sorell, and all members of the Concordia Police Department who contributed their
time and resources to this investigation. Chief Gering also recognizes the assistance and
cooperation provided by the Abilene Police Department and the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children.
