Derry N. Pentico, age 80, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS, surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 26, 1945, in Belleville, KS, to Vernie C. & Leora R. (Havel) Pentico.
Derry was a 1963 graduate of Agenda High School.
After high school he joined and served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged.
Derry married Joan Charbonneau on April 3, 1970, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia.
Derry worked as the shop foreman for Western Power Company, later for Beldon Blosser and then Walters Oil before retiring.
He was an active and instrumental member of the Freedom Club in Concordia. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #76, VFW Post #588 and the Moose Lodge #1428.
One of Derry’s passions was fireworks, and his neighborhood was known for their great firework shows and displays.
Derry is survived by his wife, Joan, Concordia, KS; a daughter, Kimberly Krager (Jim), Little Rock, AR; son, Brent Pentico, McPherson, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Timothy Pentico and a sister, Dorren Lee.
It was Derry’s wishes to be cremated and memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Father Kieffer officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas, with military honors by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post #76.
Friends may sign the book on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with Family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas.
