In a loaded three-game week, Clifton-Clyde won a pair of games in dominant fashion to advance to 8-3 on the season.
Against Thunder Ridge, the Eagles won 75-10.
The Eagles jumped out in front early, taking a 6-0 lead that then expanded into a 24-2 lead by the end of the first quarter, due in large part to the full-court press leading to a lot of steals for the Eagles.
The onslaught continued in the second quarter, with the Eagles keeping the Longhorns completely off board for the quarter. Clifton-Clyde expanded their lead to 40, with 16 straight points scored to lead 42-2 at halftime.
Thunder Ridge finally got back on the board in the first possession of the second half and got a three with 4:55 left in the quarter, pacing the Eagles 8-4 up to that point. The Eagles closed the quarter with a 15-0 run, to lead 65-6 entering the fourth quarter.
With a running clock in the fourth quarter, the Eagles could play their reserves and still outscored the Longhorns 11-4 in the quarter to cap off a loaded three-game week and build momentum for the upcoming TVL Tournament.
Sevy Wurtz scored 30 points, and added 10 rebounds, seven assists, seven steals and a block.
Paige Joy had 15 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Ellie Wurtz had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Against Frankfort, the Eagles won 64-22.
Clifton-Clyde took full momentum early in the game. After Frankfort took a 3-0 lead, the Eagles went on a 16-2 run thanks to a harassing defense that took the Wildcats completely out of the game. The Eagles held a 16-5 lead after one quarter of play.
The Eagle momentum carried into the second quarter, going on a 14-2 run before a Frankfort three broke the run and made it a 30-10 Eagle lead. The Eagles would get two more baskets from Ellie and Sevy Wurtz, with Phoenyx Burnett capping the quarter off with a free throw to counter a Frankfort three, to make it a 37-13 lead at halftime.
The third quarter saw more Eagle dominance, opening with a Sevy Wurtz steal and layup and an Eden Close layup to take a 41-15 lead. Frankfort got four more points up on the board, but the Eagles continued to put the pedal to the metal and score 19 more points, and held a 60-19 lead entering the fourth quarter.
With a running clock in the fourth quarter, the Eagles still outscored the Wildcats 4-3 in the quarter, with Sevy Wurtz making all four points en route to the 64-22 beatdown.
Sevy Wurtz led in scoring with 28 points, six rebounds, four assists and 10 steals.
Paige Joy had 14 points and two rebounds.
Burnett had seven points, five steals and an assist.
Ellie Wurtz had seven points, six rebounds and a steal.
Against the number six-ranked (2A) Valley Heights, the Eagles fell 62-44.
The game started evenly matched between the two teams, with tough offense and gritty defense. A Sevy Wurtz three made it a 7-5 Mustangs lead halfway through the first. Neither offense could find a footing to close the first quarter, with both teams only making two baskets each as Valley Heights led 11-9 after one quarter.
Both offenses would start to pick up in the second quarter, with Valley Heights holding a slim 18-16 lead with 5:47 remaining after Paige Joy made two free throws. After a Sevy Wurtz layup to make it 21-18 Mustangs, Valley Heights went on an 8-0 run to close the quarter and gain some distance with a 29-18 halftime lead.
The Eagles would start to get their offense going early in the third quarter, hitting three of their first four shots. However, they couldn’t slow down the Mustangs, who held a 40-24 lead three minutes into the quarter. The Mustangs continued to put the game further out of reach, outscoring the Eagles 24-13 for the quarter, to hold a 53-31 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter would see Valley Heights use the time and become conservative offensively, as the Eagle offense was able to close decently, scoring five points in the first 2:30 of the quarter, but eventually falling to the TVL foe 62-44.
Sevy Wurtz led in scoring with 25 points, five steals and three rebounds.
Paige Joy had 10 points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Ellie Wurtz had nine points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal.
