HOYT — Continuing its dominance into the toughest regional meet in 1A state, which saw the girls team finish fifth overall (2nd in 1A) and the boys take 10th (4th in 1A), the Clifton-Clyde track team is sending 15 athletes to the state meet.
The top three of each event automatically qualify for the state meet, and then the top four across all regionals get the final spots.
100m dash — Girls: Sevy Wurtz won gold with a time of 12.48, and earned an automatic bid to state, with the third fastest 1A regional time.
200m dash — Girls: Sevy Wurtz won gold with a time of 26.08 and earned an automatic bid to state. Boys: Luke Nobert finished fourth with a time of 24.62. Carter Olsen of Frankfort was first with a time of 22.57.
3200m run — Boys: Cohen Girard was fourth with a time of 10:16.92, and Landon Begnoche was fifth with a time of 10:24.18. Kaleb Arnold of Olpe was first with a time of 10:13.54. Girard and Begnoche each qualified for state with the first and second fastest non-automatic times.
4x400m relay — Boys: The team of Striker Affolter, Joseph Fahey, Luke Nobert, and Jack Skocny finished fifth with a time of 3:41.83. Axtell was first with a time of 3:32.6.
4x800m relay — Girls: The team of Gracen Sacco, Lillian Steinbrock, Piper Lawson, and Jaci Winter finished fifth with a time of 10:32.51. St. John’s was first with a time of 10:17.72. Boys: The team of Joseph Fahey, Striker Affolter, Landon Begnoche, and Cohen Girard finished fourth with a time of 8:30.23. Axtell was first with a time of 8:17.01. Both teams qualified for state, as the second (girls) and first (boys) fastest non-automatic times. The only faster non-automatic times were in the same region.
High Jump — Girls: Paige Joy was sixth with a height of 4’10”. Paige Smith of Wakefield was first with a height of 5’2”. Boys: Jack Skocny was third with a height of 5’10”. Logan Sanmann of Axtell was first with a height of 6’6’. Skocny earned an automatic bid to the state meet.
Long Jump — Girls: Sevy Wurtz won gold and earned an automatic bid with a jump of 18’6”, over two feet farther than second place, and the number one 1A regional jump.
Triple Jump — Girls: Sevy Wurtz won gold with a jump of 36’11.5” and an automatic bid for state with the second-best 1A regional jump.
Shot Put — Girls: Calyn Baker won gold with a throw of 39’10” and was the second-best 1A regional throw in the state. Boys: Locklund Feight was third with a throw of 47’2”. Kingsley Smith of Wakefield was first with a throw of 55’4”. Baker and Feight each earned automatic bids for state.
Discus — Girls: Calyn Baker earned second, and an automatic bid with a throw of 119’4”. Jaitlyn Johnson of Northern Valley was first with a throw of 136’6”.
Pole Vault — Girls: Jordi Fahey won gold with a height of 10’6”. Kiersten Robbins tied for sixth with a height of 8’. Boys: Brady Pruser won gold with a height of 13’6, a foot and a half higher than second place. Fahey and Pruser each earned automatic bids to state. Fahey tied for the top girls 1A height, and Pruser had the third-best height.
Jack Skocny, Paige Joy, Locklund Feight, Calyn Baker, Brady Pruser, Jordi Fahey, Landon Begnoche, Cohen Girard, Sevy Wurtz, Gracen Sacco, Lillian Steinbrock, Piper Lawson, Jaci Winter, Joseph Fahey, and Striker Affolter will compete at the state meet in Wichita, May 30-31.
