ALMA, KAN. — Heading southeast for sub-state hosted by Wabaunsee, the Clifotn-Clyde volleyball season officially ended with a three-set loss to host Wabaunsee.
After falling in set one 25-21, the Eagles were able to bounce back and score a 25-23 set two win, but the Chargers, riding a 27-match winning streak, eliminated the Eagles with a 25-18 set three win.
Calyn Baker led in kills with 11, Paige Joy had nine and Sevy Wurtz had seven. Wurtz led in blocks with three, Joy and Baker each had two. Scout Skocny led in digs with 10, Joy and Wurtz had eight, Baker had six. Wurtz led in assists with 19 and Jordi Fahey had 12.
The Chargers would then fall to TVL foe Centralia 2-0 as the Panthers make it to state.
Traveling to Mankato for the regional round of the postseason, the Eagles went 1-1 and advanced to sub-state.
In match number one with host Rock Hills, the Eagles fell in two sets, both 25-18.
Paige Joy led in kills with eight, Sevy Wurtz and Calyn Baker each had six. Scout Skocny led in digs with 10, Baker had six and Jordi Fahey had five. Wurtz led in assists with 11, Fahey had nine. Joy had the only block.
In match two versus Rural Vista, the Eagles defeated the Heat in two sets. Taking the first set 25-21, the Eagles took care of business to advance to sub-state by winning set two 25-22.
Baker led in kills with 10, Sevy Wurtz had eight, and Joy had six. Sydney Huncovsky and Finley Knoettgen each had an ace. Baker led blocks with five, Ellie Wurtz had three, Finley Knoettgen and Sevy Wurtz each had one. Skocny led in digs with 15, Sevy Wurtz had 11, Fahey had nine, Ellie Wurtz and Joy each had six.
