Elden E. (Sonny) Suskey, age 74, Abilene, KS, died on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
He was born October 2, 1950, in Ava, MO, to Arliss and Arlena (Levan) Suskey. They moved to Abilene in 1959 where he was reared until he joined the Army in November of 1968, where he served two tours in South Vietnam.
Sonny was a machinist for 45 years, working for the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, IL, Salina Area Technical College, Salina, KS, as a Machine Shop Instructor, Alstom Power Air Preheater Co, and then retiring from Arvos, in Concordia, KS, in 2016.
He enjoyed riding his trike, fishing, camping, hunting, and spending time with his dogs.
He is survived by a son, Michael S. Suskey (Amy) of Salina, KS; and two daughters, Melissa L. Suskey, of Salina, KS, and Amanda Brown (Thaine) of Kansas City, MO; other survivors include granddaughters: Meaghan, Roni, Kierstin, Madyson, Shelby, Cheyenne, and Chelsea; grandson: Mason; and great-grandchildren, Kyreese and Piper; as well as a brother, Albert Suskey of Abilene, KS; sister, Sarah (Dennis) Schoenrock of Yreka, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his mother, Arlena (11/25/1995); father, Arliss (3/31/2003) and sister, Patricia (Suskey) Jantz (3/16/2017).
Services will be held at Abilene Cemetery on April 26, 2025, with services starting at 11 a.m. Following the services there will be a luncheon at the Abilene Community Center, 102 NW 8th St, Abilene KS 67410.
Flowers and contributions to the family are both welcome, all monetary donations will be split between Dickinson County Hospice and St. Jude cancer research. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to Danner Funeral Home, 501 N Buckeye, Abilene, KS 67410 in the name of Elden Suskey.
