We’ve been talking about the reality of near-death experiences.  One particularly compelling line of proof is when living family members experience supernatural events as their loved one approaches death.  Hospice nurse Julie McFadden says that it’s quite common for someone in hospice care to say, “My dad came to me last night and told me that he’s coming to get me soon and not to worry.”  She says that almost everyone has some sort of supernatural encounter as death approaches.

Dr. Raymond Moody tells about a woman who was dying.  Her daughter writes…

We stayed my mom’s bedside for two weeks before she died.  She had been comatose for two days, but in the final moments before passing she woke to tell us she loved us very much.

“Say that again,” said my sister Kay.

With great effort, Mom pushed the oxygen mask from her face and said, “I love you all very much.”

We were deeply moved and held hands around the bed as we waited for the moment of death.  While holding hands the room seemed to change shape, and four of the six of us felt like we were being lifted from the ground as if a riptide was pulling us upward.

“Look,” said my sister, pointing to a spot at the end of the bed. “Dad’s here! He’s come back to get her!”

Everyone later reported that the light in the room became soft and fuzzy.  Rather than sad we all became joyful. As I wrote later, “It was as if the fabric of the universe had torn and we saw just a little way into heaven.”

Over the next several days we all spent hours at my parents’ home talking about this experience, trying to assemble all of the details into a coherent timeline. What had taken place with my mother was a shared-death experience. Shared-death experiences are like near-death experiences, but they happen, not to people who are dying, but to people who are around them as they die.  These spiritual experiences can happen to more than one person and are remarkably like near-death experiences.

What a beautiful story.  How amazing to think that her husband came all that way back to escort his beloved wife from Earth to heaven.  This can be your experience as well.  Make heaven your purpose.  Make heaven your destination.  Don’t wait; do it today.
