Howard F. Larkins, the son of Frank Larkins and Florence (Eickman) Larkins, was born September 17, 1923, in rural Belleville, Kansas, and passed away on January 3, 2022, in Aurora, Colorado, at the age of 98.
Howard grew up in rural Belleville, Kansas, on the family farm, graduating from Belleville High School. In his early years, he worked at the gas station in Chester and the port of entry.
He served with the U. S. Army during WW II in the European Theater, receiving the Purple Heart.
Following his discharge, he returned to the area and was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Ruby Shimic and to this union were born: Shelly, Darrell, and Larry. The couple made their home in Belleville and later Concordia, Kansas. She preceded him in death in 2008.
Howard was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Posts in Belleville, Kan. He also was a member of the Coin Collectors Club.
Howard liked antiques, rock hunting, and yard sales. He loved being with his family and his dogs.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby; sons, Darrell in 1994 and Larry in 1988; two brothers, Max and Gene, and one sister, Pauline.
He is survived by one daughter, Shelly Larkins, of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren: Ryan Ford, Sherry Phillips, and Sandy Hendrix; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Cremation was selected and memorial services will be held at a later date in the spring of 2022.
Memorials are suggested to the donor’s hospice of choice.
