Jay Dee Lewis, 65, of Belleville, Kansas, passed away on April 8, 2025, at the Minneapolis Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Minneapolis, KS.

Jay was born April 24, 1959, in Castro Valley, California, the son of Harry Leroy and Ila Louise (Beaushaw) Lewis.     He graduated from Belleville High School in 1978 and then attended NCK Technical College in Beloit, where he was an honor student each semester.

Jay was a journeyman plumber, electrician, and carpenter, he held several jobs in Republic and Cloud Counties during his lifetime.   He was always in demand, not only because of his skills, but also because he always got along so well with his customers.

Jay was a 25 year-plus member of the Belleville Masonic Lodge, as well as a member of the Belleville Lions Club and Belleville Kiwanis Club, serving in many of the officer positions in all of those organizations.   Jay was also an active member of the Belleville Fire Department and the American Lutheran Church, Belleville, Kansas.  He enjoyed NASCAR, and was an avid Nebraska Husker Sports Fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Lynn and brother, Larry.

Jay is survived by his nephews, Barry (Amy) Lewis and their son, Riley of Waco, NE and Daryl Lewis of Ankeny, Iowa; sister-in-law, Beth Lewis of York, NE; other relatives and friends.

Cremation was selected, and Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS, with PMA Al Urich officiating.

Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Belleville Masonic Lodge AF & AM #129.

Private family inurnment will be at St. Luke’s Cemetery, rural Jamestown, KS, following the services.

Friends may sign the register book before the services from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday, April 26.  

Memorials are suggested to the Belleville High Banks Hall of Fame Museum and may be left at the funeral home.
