To the Editor:
As a proud member of the Concordia community, I'm writing to express my strong support for the proposed Community Activities Center at Rasure Field.
This facility is far more than just a gym or walking track — it's an investment in our community's future. It will provide a place where people of all ages can stay active year-round, connect with one another, and enjoy the kind of high-quality indoor recreation space our town has long needed.
The economic benefits are equally exciting. A modern, flexible facility like this will allow Concordia to host sports tournaments, community festivals, youth camps, and other regional events that attract visitors — and new revenue — to our local businesses. Hotels, restaurants, and shops will all benefit as Concordia becomes a destination for both recreation and community gatherings.
For small business owners and entrepreneurs, the ripple effect is clear: more events mean more visitors, more visibility, and more opportunity for growth. This project also sends a strong message that Concordia is serious about improving quality of life — a key factor in attracting and retaining families, professionals, and businesses.
A vibrant activity center also becomes a powerful selling point for our town. When people look for a place to live, they're searching for more than just a house — they want a lifestyle. They want to know their kids will have safe, enriching places to play and learn, that there are opportunities to stay healthy and active, and that they'll feel connected to their neighbors. The Community Activities Center checks every one of those boxes.
This project positions Concordia as a great place to raise a family, start a business, or enjoy retirement. It shows that we are a forward-thinking community — one that invests in people, fosters connection, and prioritizes quality of life.
Ultimately, the Community Activities Center is a smart investment — socially, economically, and emotionally. A YES vote on November 4 is a vote for a stronger, more vibrant Concordia — one that welcomes new neighbors while enriching the lives of everyone who already calls it home.
Sincerely,
Laurie Deal
