McMillan Alleges Multiple Violations

Posted

At the Cloud County Commission meeting on Monday, Ryan McMillan presented commissioners with a two-page letter he has submitted to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the Kansas Department of Water Resources (KDWR) alleging multiple violations on county-owned property.
In his letter, McMillan filed an official "Request for Inspection - Environmental and Floodplain Violations, Property Located in and Owned by Cloud County, Kansas".
McMillan's claims include leaking used oil barrels "stored improperly within a designated flood zone, within 100 yards of an active stream" in violation of KDHE regulations, and that the violation "poses a significant risk of soil and water contamination".
McMillan also claims that there is improper creosote timber storage and disposal, excessive tire accumulation, and unauthorized fill material - all of which violate KDHE regulations.
McMillan also submitted numerous photographs of the alleged violations.
Cloud County Commissioner Chairman Mike Cleveland stated that the county will have no comment on the matter until the documents and photographs have been reviewed by an attorney.
