HUTCHINSON — Concluding the fall girl’s golf season at the 4A state championship, the Concordia High School girl’s golf team took home a medal at Carey Park in Hutchinson.

Mya Niehues finished in second place with a total score of 152, a score of 78 in round one and 74 in round two.

Preslee Marsh finished in 58th place with a round one score of 101.

Anna Widen finished in 75th place with a round one score of 108.

Maddie Bowers finished in 79th place with a round one score of 112.

Bella Stuber finished in 87th place with a round one score of 122.

Abby Herman finished in 88th place with a round one score of 123.

Addison Douglass of Wamego was first individually with a total score of 145. Wamego also won the team title with a score of 658.

“State golf was a great experience!” said head coach Gene Rundus.

“We were very excited that our whole team qualified this year, and we were expecting great things. The weather was not very cooperative on Monday, as it was cool and VERY windy. The greens were slick with tricky pin placements, and in the end, they proved just a little too much for us on day one. Preslee was very close to the 98 cut-line, but only Mya was able to advance to the second day. Niehues led for part of the first round and ended that day only one stroke behind Douglas. Though she played a great day two, Douglas prevailed and took her fourth straight championship. I was really proud of the poise Mya showed. She hung in there more often than not and went shot-for-shot with the competition. Her driver worked well all day on Tuesday, and she made some very timely putts. She did have a few irons that got right on us, but she never lost her composure and kept playing each hole like it was a new round. This was her third top ten in a row, and I have no doubt that she will contend for first next year.”
