Panther baseball sweeps Hesston, Chapman

Bouncing back after a doubleheader split at Wamego, the Concordia High School baseball team picked up a pair of sweeps over Hesston and Chapman to advance to 13-2 on the year.

Versus #6 Hesston in game one, the Panthers won 6-2.

After a scoreless two innings, Concordia broke the game open in the third inning. Brandon Vignery got a leadoff walk and stole second, Boone Richard got walked. An Ayden Krier triple scored Vignery and Richard. A Parker Jackson single scored Krier, with Jackson then stealing second, third and home, to put the Panthers up 4-0. Hesston would get its footing as well, scoring a pair of runs to make it a 4-2 game after three.

After a scoreless fourth, the Panthers brought a run home. Drake Blochlinger got hit by a pitch before scoring on a Kale Schroeder single, to put the Panthers up 5-2. Scoreless fifth and sixth innings gave way to a Chane Parker single, who scored on a Schroeder single, to put the Panthers up 6-2 to end the top of the seventh. Three outs later Concordia took game one.

In game two, the Panthers won 12-6.

Concordia scored a solo run to start the game, with Vignery getting a leadoff walk before getting out on a Richard double, before Richard scored on an error to put the Panthers up 1-0. The Swatthers kicked into gear, scoring four runs to take the momentum after one inning, leading 4-1. Concordia was able to cut into the lead, scoring a pair of runs courtesy of Parker and Koehn Williams to make it 4-3 Hesston.

After another Swatther run in the bottom of the second, Concordia would finally match the run in the top of the fifth, with Vignery scoring on a Krier single to make it a one-run game, 5-4.

Concordia took the lead in the top of the sixth, with Parker and Williams scoring to make it 6-5 Panthers. The Panthers iced the game and put it out of reach in the seventh, scoring six runs from Richard, Jackson, Blochlinger, Parker, Williams and Shroeder, all scoring to put the Panthers up 12-5. Hesston would score a run to end the game as the Panthers completed the sweep.

Versus Chapman in game one, the Panthers won 11-1.

The Panthers got to work early, scoring a trio of runs in the top of the first by Vignery, Richards and Jackson, to take an early 3-0 lead, with Chapman scoring their only run in the bottom of the first. After being held scoreless in the top of the second and third innings, Concordia scored four runs to make it 7-0, with Blochlinger, Parker, Williams and Rush LeDuc all crossing home. A pair of Panther runs in the fifth by Schroeder and LeDuc would put Concordia up 9-1 in the fifth inning. Two more runs in the sixth would end the game early, as Jackson and Blochlinger scored to end the game by mercy rule.

In game two, the Panthers won 25-3.

The Panthers carried the momentum into game two, scoring a solo run to open the game by Vignery to lead 1-0. Chapman would steal the momentum, scoring a pair of runs to take the lead 2-1 after one inning. Concordia would counter with their own two-run inning in the top of the second, with Vignery and Richard scoring to retake the lead 3-2.

An offensive explosion for the Panthers in the top of the third saw eight runs come across home, as Concordia pushed the lead to nine, 11-2, with Chapman only managing one run in the bottom of the third, their final run of the game. The Panthers scored six runs in the top of the fourth to push it to a 17-3 lead, with eight more runs in the top of the fifth to make it a 25-3 game, with three outs by the Panther defense giving them the blowout victory.
