Panther track send 12 to state meet, girls finish 3rd at regionals

ABILENE — Battling for the chance to represent Concordia on the state stage, the CHS track team travelled to Abilene for the 4A regionals, with 12 Panthers punching their tickets to state.

The top three of each event automatically qualify for the state meet, then the top four across all regionals get the final spots.

100m dash — Boys: Kaide Gropp finished fifth with a time of 11.41. Jace Weller of Clay Center was first with a time of 11.01. Girls: Madalyn Bowers finished fourth with a time of 13.19, and Avery Kueker was fifth with a time of 13.25. Renatta Heintz of Abilene was first with a time of 12.21.

200m dash — Boys: Javen Garcia was sixth with a time of 23.26. Weller (CC) was first with a time of 21.82. Girls: Lillian Nuss was fourth with a time of 26.33. Heintz (Abilene) was first with a time of 26.33. Nuss qualified for state as the second fastest non-guaranteed time.

400m dash — Girls: Rylie Jessup was third with a time of 1:02.8. Ragan Pfiefer of Augusta was first with a time of 1:00.39. Jessup earned an automatic bid for the state meet.

800m run — Girls: Rylie Jessup was third with a time of 2:27.19. Hannah Bridwell was fourth with a time of 2:29.05. Lauren Smith of Clay Center was first with a time of 2:17. Jessup earned an automatic state bid, and Bridwell qualified as the second fastest non-guaranteed time.

100m hurdles — Girls: Charlize Cash was fourth with a time of 16.95. Arihanna Koehn of McPherson was first with a time of 15.63.

300m hurdles — Girls: Char Cash was fifth with a time of 48.97. Koehn (McP) was first with a time of 47.29.

4x100m relay — Boys: The team of Ryker Wildeman, Javen Garcia, Matthew Naillieux, and Kaide Gropp got sixth with a time of 44.71. Buhler won with a time of 43.33. Girls: The team of Madalyn Bowers, Lillian Nuss, Kynlee Hamel, and Avery Kueker finished second with a time of 50.26. Buhler won with a time of 49.08. The girls team earned an automatic bid to the state meet.

4x400m relay — Girls: The team of Lillian Nuss, Charlize Cash, Marlee VanMeter, and Rylie Jessup finished fourth with a time of 4:12.22. Clay Center won with a time of 4:04.52. The girls team qualified as the second-fastest non-guaranteed team.

High Jump — Girls: Gabi Lange was second with a height of 5’. Avery Kueker was third, also with a height of 5’0. Ellie Herrera of McPherson was first with a height of 5’2. Lange and Kueker earned automatic bids for state.

Long Jump — Girls: Marlee VanMeter was fifth with a distance of 16’1.25”. Andi Buschbom of McPherson was first with a jump of 17’4”.

Triple Jump — Boys: Reese Franklin finished third with a jump of 39’8”. Abram Stratton of Clay Center was first with a jump of 41’1.25”. Girls: Charlize Cash was second with a jump of 34’8.5”. Claire Wasylk of Chapman was first with a jump of 35’1.25”. Cash earned an automatic bid for state.

Pole Vault — Boys: Burke Kindel finished sixth with a height of 11’6”. Max Harmony of Buhler was first with a height of 14’. Girls: Gabi Lange was second with a height of 10’. Jenna Lackey of Buhler was first, also with a height of 10’. Lange earned an automatic bid, while Kindel made it as a tie for the final spot as one of seven members with a height of 11’6.

Shot Put — Dane Cleveland finished second with a throw of 46’9.5”. Jadrian Riley was fifth with a throw of 43’6.5”. Caden Wenderott of McPherson was first with a throw of 48’11”. Girls: Gabi Lange was sixth with a throw of 32’9”. Emma Johnson of Circle was first with a throw of 35’2.5”.

Javelin — Girls: Rylie Jessup was sixth with a throw of 113’5”. Ryan Gotti of Buhler was first with a throw of 129’4”.

Lillian Nuss, Hannah Bridwell, Marlee VanMeter, Avery Kueker, Gabi Lange, Kynlee Hamel, Charlize Cash, Rylie Jessup, Madalyn Bowers, Burke Kindel, Reese Franklin, and Dane Cleveland will compete at the state meet in Wichita, May 30-31.
