Panthers compete at Sabetha Invite, split triangular, fall to Abilene

SABETHA — In the final tournament of the regular season and heading out east to Sabetha, the Concordia High School volleyball team went 3-2 and finished fifth in the eight-team tournament.

In the first match of the day, the Panthers defeated Royal Valley 2-1. The war of the Panthers saw Concordia take set one 25-22, with Royal Valley taking set two 25-23, before Concordia sealed the deal with a 25-23 win in set three to earn the win.

In match two of the day versus Marysville, the Bulldogs got their first win of the year over the Panthers. Marysville took set one in a close win of 26-24, with Concordia taking set two 25-15, before the Bulldogs took set three 25-18.

In the final match of pool play, the Panthers fell to Rossville 2-1. The Bulldogs took set one 25-15, with the Panthers taking set two 25-21, before Concordia fell in set three 25-22.

In the consolation bracket, Concordia defeated Sabetha 2-1. The Panthers won set one 25-22, before losing set two 25-22, then taking set three 25-20 to move on.

In the fifth/sixth place game, matched up with Jackson Heights, the Panthers won 2-0 to take fifth place in the tournament. The Panthers took set one 25-23 and set two 29-27 to end the tournament on a high note.

Traveling to Minneapolis for a triangular with the Lions and Russell, the Panthers split the triangular.

In the first match of the day, the Panthers swept Russell 2-0. In set one, the Panthers dominated to a 25-7 set one win, and continued that momentum into set two with a 25-8 win to complete the sweep.

In match two versus Minneapolis, the Panthers got swept 2-0. In set one, the Panthers lost 25-13, and in set two, the Panthers lost 25-18 to the Lions.

Jaylin Roush led in kills with 20, Marlee VanMeter led in digs with 15, Rylie Jessup led in assists with 17, and Charlize Cash led in aces with four.

Traveling to Abilene to take on the Cowgirls in an NCKL matchup, the Panthers dropped both matches.

In match one the Panthers lost 2-0. Abilene dominated set one to a 25-13 win, before the Panthers lost a close set two 26-24.

In match two, the Panthers lost 2-1. After a close set one loss 25-23, the Panthers had a strong 25-19 set two win, before Abilene rallied for their own 25-19 set three win to defeat the Panthers.

Jaylin Roush led in kills with 26, digs with 21 and blocks with four. Baylen Arnold led in assists with 41 and had 13 digs. Kynlee Hamel had 13 kills and 18 digs.
