Panthers qualify full team for state, first time since 2020

HESSTON — Competing at the 4A regionals at Hesston and qualifying a full team for the state meet at Hutchinson, the Concordia High School girls’ golf team finished third as a team thanks to three top 20 finishes.

Mya Niehues was the top Panther with a score of 78, good for fourth place individually.

Preslee Marsh was 10th place with a score of 89, a personal best.

Maddie Bowers was 20th with a score of 100.

Anna Widen was 25th with a score of 106.

Bella Stuber was 34th with a score of 117.

Andi Buschbom of McPherson was first individually, with a score of 75 and McPherson was first as a team, with a score of 326.

“Well, it was a nail-biter nearly all day, but the girls pulled it off and qualified the entire team for state,” said head coach Gene Rundus. “I had confidence from the beginning that the girls would prevail over a determined Hesston team, and they didn’t disappoint… It was cool and rainy for most of the day, but we knew that no one could afford to lose focus.  We coaches are incredibly proud of all their efforts today and extremely happy for the girls who are getting rewarded for all their hard work this season.”
