Richard Culbertson, 91, passed peacefully through heaven's gate on March 16, 2021.
Born in 1929 to Harvey and Margaret Culbertson, he grew up in Concordia, Kansas, where he graduated from Concordia High School. He then went on to earn a BS degree in economics at Ottawa University.
After college, he went into business with his parents at Culbertson Electric and eventually purchased it and owned it until his retirement in 1994.
Richard loved Concordia. He was a deacon in his church, president of Kiwanis, was a member of the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. He served as a leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Richard played the trumpet in high school and college, and eventually joined the Concordia city band where he enjoyed playing for its citizens. He served in the National Guard for nine years.
In 1994, Richard and his wife retired to Tigard, Oregon, to be close to their grandkids. He enjoyed going to their sporting events and hanging out with them. While living in Oregon, he earned a black belt in Jon’s Taekwondo School.
They moved to Watauga, Texas, in 2017, where he lived with Geneva and Roger until his passing.
Richard loved people. He never met a stranger. When he would meet someone for the first time, he would quickly learn their name and history. Then he would come inside and tell anyone who would listen whom he had just met.
Richard will be forever missed for his jovial personality and infectious laugh. He is survived by his wife, Geneva, of 69 years, his three sons: Steve, Roger, and Jon, and eight grandchildren: Jenny, Scott, Kelsey, Julie, Sasha, Talus, Amanda and Alan.
The family suggests memorials be sent to The First Baptist Church in Concordia, Kansas.
