SCOTT CITY — Heading over three hours west for the 4A boys tennis regionals in Scott City, the Concordia boys tennis team picked up three wins overall and advanced one player to the state competition in Winfield on the 17th.
In number one singles, Evan Bombardier went 2-2 on the day. Starting with two straight set wins over Christian Garcia (6-0, 6-1) and Tony Jagger (6-4, 6-1), of Abilene and Colby, respectively, Bombardier fell in the next two matches to first seed Cooper Bohme of McPherson, and Reed Batterton of Scott City, to earn fourth place and a trip to state.
Hunter Nielander, playing in number two singles, went 0-2 on the day with a 4-6 and 6-7(3) loss to Nicholas Martinez of Ulysses.
The duo of Carter Pickel and Noah Wood, playing number one doubles, went 0-2, with 1-6 and 2-6 losses to Pierce Casteel and Thad Pekarek of Abilene.
Eli Henderson and Jagger Johnson, playing number two doubles, went 1-2. Winning match one 6-2, the duo then lost two straight, 5-7 and 13-15 in the final set.
Competing in the NCKL meet at Marysville, the boys tennis team took home a pair of medals last Monday, after being rained out on the previous Friday.
Evan Bombardier, in number one singles, went 3-1 and earned a silver medal. Winning three straight matches, 8-3, 8-0, and 8-5, to start the day, Bombardier lost in the final match, 8-2.
Hunter Nielander, in number two singles, went 2-2 and earned a bronze medal. Winning the first match with an 8-0 sweep, Nielander lost in match two 7-8(9) by tiebreaker, won match three 8-3, then ended the day with a 0-8 loss to end the day.
Carter Pickel and Noah Wood, in number one doubles, went 0-4 on the day.
Eli Henderson and Jagger Johnson, in number two doubles, went 1-3, with the sole win being in match two, with an 8-1 victory.
