Volunteers needed!

National Orphan Train museum in need of volunteers

Posted

Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? Do you have a few hours each week that you would like to be useful? Do you enjoy meeting people? We have a place for you!

With more than 5,000 visitors every year, it takes more than just a curator to operate a museum that welcomes guests from across the United States and around the world. The museum is hoping to expand its volunteer staffing this year. Currently, the curator and at least one volunteer staff the museum. We would love to have two volunteers for each shift to allow the curator to concentrate fully on specific duties.

Volunteers are the heart of our organization. From greeting visitors to restocking supplies in bathrooms, our dedicated volunteers help to provide a friendly, informative visit to the National Orphan Train Complex. Depending on comfort level, there are a number of projects that volunteers can help complete. Training is provided so volunteers feel comfortable. And flexibility in scheduling is a very important aspect of volunteering at the NOTC.

Select your own commitment level, from a three-hour shift once a week to any other timeframe that fits your schedule. Your level of comfort with any of the duties a volunteer can fulfill is also a consideration. Currently, NOTC utilizes seven volunteers, some of whom also serve on the board of directors, which is NOT a requirement to be a volunteer. Some volunteers help out on an as-needed basis. Shifts are from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, or 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Volunteers are also invited to enjoy a full day at NOTC by covering both morning and afternoon shifts!

If you would like to be part of the number-one reason why people choose to visit Concordia, please contact Curator Heather Bigwood or Treasurer Wonda Phillips during open hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Stop by in person or call us at 785-243-4471 today!
