National Weather Service (NWS) Topeka forecasters have issued a winter storm watch that will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon.
Forecasters predict that heavy snow will likely impact most of the state's northern half, with possible accumulations of 6 to 9 inches.
NWS staff included multiple counties with the watch, including Cloud and surrounding counties.
The snow will likely begin Tuesday evening and continue through Wednesday afternoon.
Forecasters predict some of the most significant impacts will be on infrastructure. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous to traverse. Travel could become difficult, impacting Wednesday morning and evening commutes.
NWS forecasters suggest that residents take some precautionary actions before the winter storm impacts the area, including monitoring the latest forecasts for updates, delaying any travel plans, preparing storm kits for when driving is necessary and preparing in the home by gathering warm clothing, blankets and other necessities in case electricity is lost.
A winter storm travel kit should include booster cables, tire chains, blankets, extra clothing, a first aid kit, water, a flashlight and a shovel.
